Praise God
The Start of Another Day

When I first awake,
Life is on an edge,
Do I want to partake?

I’m not real sure,
What do I want,
Whatever, it must be true.

I roll over,
The bones creak loudly,
On my feet to deliver.

The moans from morning pain
Call attention to me.
Of my love for gain!

I sit and rub my sleepy eyes,
Reach for glasses next to the bed,
Emit a few simple sighs.

I stand and walk,
More creaks and moans,
Still unable to utter talk.

A few creaks from the floor,
The rest of the noise from me,
With eyes half open a mirror I see.

A routine brush of my teeth,
Habitual splash of water on my face,
For sure past my sixtieth!

With Courage of a warrior,
I look slowly at the mirror,
And it looks slowly at me.

A faint smile from one of us,
The mirror doesn’t break,
I hear no fuss!

Another walk, more creak,
A few less moans,
We will make the week.

A cup of fresh hot coffee,
Ahaaaaa!
And I know I am here for another day!

A kiss from Mom,
And all is OK,
With the world for another day!

Lest we forget who we are,
We need to look forward,
Not back!
